It was awkward to have to roleplay as a Tiger instead of a Lion. And awkward was putting it lightly. Nozomi shifted around awkwardly, rubbing her glasses as she tried to get all her facts together. She really wanted to use knowledge from other clans too, making it all the harder.

Her own treatise would have been disastrous in actual usage. She proposed that the Locust, being as they were inferior to the Tiger in every way other than in being dishonorable subhumans, prostrate themselves before their betters and be lucky to not be annihilated from the galaxy. Of course, she hadn't written it quite like that, but it was certainly an interpretation of it.

Ruhe wouldn't mention the sides out of politeness. Everyone knew which Clan sucked at metal. "It's elegant, bloodless, and final, while aggressive and dominative, so everyone will be satisfied!"

That was irrefutable logic. Ruhe supported it with a sharp chord on his fiddle as an audible harbinger of the prospective accord.

Tsugiharu thought this was certainly...not what he'd been expecting from the Governor. Grueling physical contests, discussion of deep theology...but diplomacy?

Well, at least he knew a lot about History right? Well....not as much as he thought he remembered. He was really struggling to come up with appropriate precedents of the Lion...that is Tiger suing for peace. There was that time in the distant past where they spent incalculable resources protecting a Crane province only to be deemed villains. Still, he managed to scrape together enough good examples.

But then it came to writing the actual agreement out...and really, Tsugiharu didn't get it at all. If the Lion...that is Tiger, were so damned good at warfare, why should they settle for peace? They should conquer all of the Locust, and then their neighbors and then their neighbors' neighbors. Never ending expansion until all bowed to the might of the Tiger.

He tried to frame an agreement that made some semblance of sense, but he just could quite make it convincing enough to please the pacifist judges.

It was what she had worried it was going to be, but that didn't mean Hyeon-ju was the type to not see through the task to the fullest of her abilities.

Her experience with studying battles of old gave her an advantage, and she seized upon the knowledge of a similar incident over a thousand years ago, where the Imperial bureaucracy had given many conscessions to the Lion against the Mantis, after a series of raids that were more or less proving that the Mantis were behind it.

With confidence and certainity in her words, as befitting of the commanding officer she aspired to be, the Utaku laid down a harsh but perfectly handled legal agreement that did favor the Tiger over the Locust, but reasonably backed up by her arguments and understanding of the situation.

She was no diplomat, but Hyeon-ju had a force of personality and determination.

Coming from the Sparrow, and under the wing of Imperials in more ways than one, Shion was actually a stalwart defender of peace on most accounts.

Her work studying the precedents for how to approach the matter between Locust and Tiger showed her dedication to peace beautifully, and she was able to find some rather good arguments she could try and call up.

When the time came to actually present those arguments, however... her stark honesty came to the fore. What went through was much more the 'stark' part than the 'honest', sadly, and her pointing out thinly veiled points as 'lies' didn't help her get her argument through at all.

In the end she was frustrated with her performance, but well... she knew what had been said was a lie! How else could she have said that, right?

Maybe she had some things to learn about that...

Perhaps, under all of Fusako's open minded geniality, there was a stubborn, opinionated woman that would not brook any disagreement. Certain she was the last person to ever say 'sorry', and she always let her opinion be known. That she considered such things a strength rather than any sort of weakness showed in her attitude to the event.

While she wasn't a scholar, she was an avid reader, and pulling on all her knowledge, she found precedent for peace. That was the unimportant part as far as she was concerned. Her words were what she truly focused on, and by the end, it seemed that's what the Phoenix were focused on as well.

Peace was achieved.

Tackling the problem earnestly, Ichika delved into the histories available and picked through it to find the most appropriate and useful information she could for a counter argument to the one penned for her. Setting herself down with the appropriate histories she took to looking over their demands, and their lists of accusations. Assuming, of course, that neither side was lying in the accusations levied on the other clan. For surely the Tiger were a most honorable Clan and the Locust would not besmirch themselves either. Ichika started doing the mental laps.

With support from previous treaties she discovered a link in the arguments of the current simulation. Declaring a route that she felt would be able to resolve many of their disputes and calling upon one sides sense of Honor in such a subtle way as to ignore it would be foolish. Meanwhile, also, declaring something which would provide incentive toward the idea of profit that might cease hostilities for more peaceful resolutions.

When she finished Ichika turned over the penned simulated treaty with a smile. Surely, the difficulties with the Tiger and Locust would soon be abated.

Well This certainly wasn't one of The Manti's strong points, he mostly just followed orders and shot people. Which was fine most times, but it did mean he was a little out of his elements in times like this.

He tried his best to remembe rwhat he knew about this type of situation, but no matter how hard he tried, it simply eluded him. Which might be expected given how much he hadn't paid attention in hostory lessons.

Luckily? Or perhaps unluckily, he did have a glib enough tongue, or in this cae pen to be able to make somethign of hsi argument. Even if it likely wasn't the finest the judges had heard today.

Bayushi Akagi’s list of precedents was a little muddled, accidentally including one citation from a breakfast cereal commercial, but despite that he penned a strong argument for an agreement requiring the Locust Clan to return a pirated shipment of sugar frosted nigiri and agree to a truce for 7 years in return for the Tiger Clan’s promise to praise a Locust Clan candidate for an Emerald Magistrate position. This wasn’t the most brilliant treaty that was drafted, but at least it had a somewhat memorable catchphrase.

Akodo Akihiko's performance here may have seemed out of place for a renowned fighter ace whose regular job was blasting apart "Locust Clan" starfighters.

But in the young Lion's mind, the mission here was really no different than a combat mission. Clear objective: Make peace between the clans. Prep work: Study precedent and plan for contact with the enemy. Execution: Bring strongest possible argument to bear at the critical moment, generating the momentum to achieve the objective.

For the Phoenix judges it was perhaps a bit discordant, a warrior arguing against continued hostilities between "Tiger and Locust," - or perhaps it was exactly the right messenger to make the message more compelling. No courtier or bureaucrat here, but a warrior son of a warrior clan, in his military dress uniform, telling them exactly what they would long to hear from the "Tiger Clan" every day until the end of time.

As Akihiko bowed deeply to the judges, he didn't know whether the effort would be sufficient, but deep within him he knew he'd made the strongest argument that his mind and his heart could muster.

Mindful of his ancestors, Atsumori managed to resolve the scenario satisfactorily, even if he wouldn't be winning any extra points for brilliance or rhetorical style. He successfully recognized the textbook example on which the "Tiger" and "Locust" conflict was clearly based--a Phoenix primary education probably helped with that--and he was able to explain the resolution of that historical incident without wandering into excessive digressions about the feeding habits of actual homeworld tigers and locusts. With an effort.
