Asakaze
朝風

Type: Primal world
Orbital radius: 1.03 JSD
Gravity: 0.87 R
Population: 5,000,000
System: Tenmei (天明)
Sector: Northeastern
Imperial Cartography Designation: HNE-781

Asakaze, originally known as HNE-781, is a primal world situated on the northeastern fringes of the Empire. First reached by Imperial Explorers in 2926, the world was settled in 3033 by the Phoenix and Osprey clans. With both the Crab and the Lion unwilling to see the other clan gaining an access to yet another world - and worried that the ever-hungry Mantis might try to claim the planet, both the Crab and the Lion vouched for the Phoenix-Osprey coalition to be given the rights to govern the world.

Sometime during its early history the planet was struct by a massive asteroid, causing the the southern pole to cave in and scattering hundred of thousands of tons of matter on the low orbit. The crater that results from this impact is the great planetary ocean that wraps around the largest landmass of the planet.

Asakaze has a single moon, Kin'en (TMS-1). Due to its close orbit, it looks smaller when the observer is further away from the planet's equator, and is below the horizon and thus invisible when viewed from the world's polar caps. The Phoenix have constructed few small low-gravity factories on the moon, though these facilities are largely automated and only a small crew of samurai resides on the moon at a given time. For reasons the Phoenix are keeping to themselves, the moon is off-limits to all but authorized personnel.

Shiro Yoake 城夜明
Castle of the Dawn is the capital of Asakaze and the seat of its governor. The mountain housing the castle proper also houses the well defended space port that links the planet to the Empire. The city is build near the massive fungal forests that cover the western parts of the sole continent of the planet. The Phoenix settlers harvest various species of the fungi due to the complex chemical compounds they contain. These chemicals are then used in both agricultural and pharmacological research. This undertaking is wrought with dangers as many of the fungi are highly poisonous and the fungal forest itself is home to several species of aggressive mega-fauna.

Shiro Shiokaze 城潮風
Castle of the Sea Breeze is the home of the Asako fishing fleet on the world, it's rag-tag vessels scouring the nutrient rich polar waters for prey. The large port needed to operate the fishing fleet also makes the city the trade-hub of the planet with large hovercraft-freighters ferrying goods and people across the vast planetary ocean.

The Osprey clan has several holdings within the city, thus helping the Phoenix to fulfill the letter of the Imperial Edict that decrees that no single Clan may lay claim to an entire world. In practice, the Osprey are a well-paid proxy that allows the Phoenix to govern Asakaze on its own terms.

Shiro Tasogare 城黄昏
Castle of Twilight is the proverbial bread basket of Asakaze. The city is surrounded by massive plantations where multitude of engineered crops are grown to feed the planet's growing population. The nature of the world makes farming a dangerous undertaking even if the aggressive mega-fauna are rare south of the great desert.

Shiro Samidare 城五月雨
Castle of May Rains is the Agasha holding on the world, housing nearly a million souls. This city lies on a top of a massive mining complex designed to extract the rare Firestone from the world's crust. Smokestacks of a dozen or so massive refineries define the skyline of the city. Due to its heavy industry, a heavy acidic smog tends to cover city on windless days.

Shinri sect

Established as soon as the planet was colonized. Shinri sects emphasizes the connection between humans and the nature, with several of their practices involving things like climbing steep mountains or meditating under a waterfall - in general unpleasant activities meant to numb the mind so that the devout can focus on the present.

Members of the sect seek Enlightenment by seeking one's place within the universe. Besides their outdoor activities, the cult has several meditative practices where the faithful incite the Golden Sutra for hours. Other rites involve Rite of Vigil where the devout are expected to stay in the temple for 24 hours, remaining awake. The sect believes that self-improvement leads into Enlightenment. It has many supporters among the bushi.

The sect is led by a group of of Phoenix families that live at the temple, choosing the head of the sect among themselves, with the others serving in various roles.
