She smiled and took a sip. "I'm a marine, mostly on mid-size ships. Mostly dealt with pirates, boarding or defending from boarders." She raised her eyebrows and grinned. "It's nice that there are so many pilots among the participants of the miai - adjacent duties. It'd be nice to be married to someone you'll actually see more than a few times a year."

"Oh." Yul blinked. "I guess I hadn't really thought of that." He frowned, chewing his lips. "Yeah, I guess I've been around the same group of people for so long..." He waved a hand, still frowning. "I guess if I wanted a wife I see regularly, I need to make sure she also has ship duty."

His lips quirked. "Of course, better hope we both make officer. It's hard to share an intimate marriage bed when you have six other roommates, huh? Although there are ways..." Yul shrugged.

"True, though I hear a happy marriage can put officer status in easier reach," she noted with a bright smiled. "So I guess that would be the other hope."

"Yeah..." Yul said, nodding slowly. "I know that a married couple who really look out for each other can help the other to find opportunities."

He pursed his lips. "I do hope to find that sort of match. It seems like a challenge to find it in just a few weeks, though. I trained with my squadron for a lot longer than that..." Yul's lips quirked. "Hopefully some of those skills will apply to marriage as well."

"It does, but... I think at that point it's a decision, you know?" She mused. "Like... Finding someone you connect with to some degree and working together to build each other up. I think those skills apply. It's like teamwork." She smiled cheerfully.

Yul considered that a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. It is like teamwork. And I know that I can be a good teammate to someone, even if, maybe, things aren't the best otherwise.

He tilted his head, regarding Shizuku, his lips quirked. "You give very good advice, Daidoji-san. I'm glad I joggled you."

"Yeah. No battle plan survives contact with the enemy, as the saying goes, which is when good teamwork really makes a difference," she agreed with a sunny smile. "If it helped, I'm glad. I am pleased to have been joggled to good effect."

Yul flashed her a grin at the shared joke.

"So a marine, huh? I guess you're probably used to the shipboard life. These four person rooms are almost a luxury, huh?" He smiled gently at her. "You like being planetside, or you can't wait to get up there again?"

"Hey, it's two people less than I'm used to and the room is bigger. Total vacation," she replied with a grin. "Are Unicorn vessels any more comfortable in that regard, since you guys are the travel masters?"

"As to planetside, I'm not used to it yet. Born and raised on a space station and work on a ship. It's more fun than space, but the bugs and dirt and lack of climate control take some getting used to, though I wouldn't say they're bad."

Yul grinned. "Not at all. My last assignment was on a carrier with eight to a room. It's an older carrier, with a distinguished service, but that does mean it got a little rough sometimes." He shrugged. "But we make do. There were common areas to stretch your legs a bit more, and stuff."

His eyebrows went up. "No kidding. I've known some Unicorn like that. Me, it's the opposite. I'm from a pretty sparsely populated world. Shinjo's Grace, if you've heard of it. Lots of nature, fields, sky as far as the eye could see." Yul's lips quirked. "Mushrooms only got to maybe a foot tall at the largest, so this planet's a bit new to me, too."

She chilled at the room description. "Oof. But you're right - we make do."

"Sounds very pastoral. It'd be nice to see a place like that."

"Yeah? It's nice." Yul said. "Really nice. But... at the same time, I couldn't wait to get out of there." He sighed, smiling. "And now I miss it sometimes."

He looked at her. "Have you had a chance to do any exploring around here yet? See the fungal forests, and stuff? It looks really interesting. I'd love to get to see it from the air."

"Not yet, though the biathlon later will take us through there." She replied thoughtfully. "Seeing it from the air sounds more fun and like way less pressure, though."

"Yeah... that's pretty soon." Yul frowned. "Gotta remember to leave a bit of time to stretch." He smiled easily, but a careful eye might notice his hands clenching, down at his sides, a sign of nervousness.

He grinned. "It's great. I feel like I haven't really seen a place until I've seen it from the air. Like, you see forests, and mountains and stuff from the ground, but once you're in the air, you can see how they all fit together. It's like seeing all of a person's personality, instead of just part of it." Yul smiled, although his eyes were curious as he looked at Shizuku. Crane were good at only showing part of themselves...

"There's ornithopters here. You think you might try flying one sometime?"

"Want to stretch together? I need to, too," she suggested. Calling attention to his nerves was right out, but company might help.

"If only there were ways to get an aerial view of people. Though that sounds kind of weird and invasive when I say it out loud," she mused. At the suggestion, the thoughtfulness broke into a laugh. "I wouldn't want to end up as a Crane-shaped grease stain through lack of experience. If they're two person, I'd rather someone else did the piloting."

Yul grinned. "They're up to four people, actually." He tilted his head, considering. "Well, I plan on renting one, at least a few times." He shrugged. "Maybe I can take you up there sometime. We can keep in touch?"

He looked at her a moment, then nodded with a smile. "Yeah, that sounds good. Thanks, Daidoji-san." He glanced around. "Seems like we've got some space. I know I was just planning on stretching here, and then a little more once we get to the event locale." He rose to his feet, moving to the open part of the common area.

"Yeah! She pumps a fist in the air. "Let's do that some time. That sounds fun."

She got up and followed after. Sitting down with her legs straight forward and together, she leaned forward, grabbing the bottoms of her feet and bending her toes a little toward her chest.

Yul grinned. "I like that enthusiasm, Daidoji-san."

For his part, Yul remained standing for the moment, although the stretch was similar; he bent at the waist, leaning forward to touch his toes. His ponytail draped down, the muscles in his bare arms stretching noticeably.

As he straightened, Yul couldn't help but cast an appreciative eye over Shizuku's form. "Pretty good, Daidoji-san." He said. "Seems like the Daidoji marines keep you in fine shape, huh?"

She straightened, curled one leg back, then leaned forward again to fully lay forward on the outstretched one with her hands resting on her ankle. "Well..." She wIted a few moments before switching. "I use dance stretches. Nothing like 'em to keep you limber."

"Oh? You dance, huh?" Yul smiled. "I've been known to hit the dance floor a few times. Although maybe that's not the same thing."

He watched as she performed the next stretch. "Do you think you could show me a few of these?"
