Bayushi Akagi wandered down the garden paths with his festival prizes: a small batlike plushie, and a transparent plastic bag filled with water, in which five shimmering goldfish swam around. With no real means to take care of the goldfish - especially once they lifted off-planet again - Akagi found a small, decorative pond secluded among the cultivated plant life of the garden. Kneeling by the edge of the pond, he opened the twist-tie that held the plastic bag closed, releasing his goldfish by pouring them into the little pond. "Be free!" the Bayushi told them. "Live your lives, as long as you can." He thought that the pond seemed a natural enough setting that they might thrive. The gardeners had impressed him as traditionalist types, so there shouldn't be some sort of hidden mechanical purifier that might doom the poor goldfish. He hoped. As the goldfish began to move around exploring their new home, fireworks began to explode in the night sky above. The reflections of fire blossoms glittered brilliantly on the water surface, making it appear as though the fish swam through a sea of stars. |
