You know if you're supposed to be here.

The Xenofungi Forests are home to dozens of observation outposts pods set up since the early days of Asakaze's founding. Often, these would be constructed beforehand and dropped off by aircraft so that they will require little setup. The local fauna did make construction work difficult in the wild, after all. These outposts pods allowed researchers to stay in the wilderness for a prolonged amount of time while keeping safe from some of the wildlife. The pods were often equipped with a power generator and water purifier built-in.

RO-001 was one of these outposts pod, abandoned recently, and looking nothing more than a glorified set of shipping containers placed atop of each other with windows to make a cubical structure. The outpost found itself deep within several tall stalks of gigantic mushrooms that provided a clear view of the building unless within the small clearing of muddy ground. Anyone within the clearing will find themselves uncomfortable close as the tall stalks of behemoth mushrooms hangover them. It seemed that Isawa Shin's new hideout was in working order, despite being covered by a multitude of spore growths on the rooftop. The generator was droned on its grinding mechanical sound, providing the light that could be seen through its half-closed shutters. Its metal door was closed at the front. There was an old heimen working truck parked close to the door.

There was a spore-laced fog that permeated in the air, the scene of decay quite evident. It was unknown if they came from the local fungi or the potential dead who may lurk nearby.

Characters begin 50 feet from the house. Due to the fog, characters suffer +5TN to ranged combat.

This wasn't exactly a place Hyeon-ju wanted to be during a miai. She was supposed to be having a good time, meeting with eligible samurai...

... But then this bastard had killed one of the finest samurai here. And had nearly killed her as well. Revenge had to be satisfied.

Wearing her armor with the leather-jacket over it, and her rifle slung on her back, Hyeon-ju now shifted the rifle into her hands. Her beautiful face was set in a stoic grimace underneath the gas mask.

Yul and Hyeon-ju were not friends, not exactly. And they probably never would be. But they were wingmates. They might yell at each other, he might want to choke her, but if she needed him, he would be there. And avenging a debt of honor certainly qualified.

He was similarly geared up, wearing his armor, and carrying his loaded pack. His rifle was already in his hands. He walked slowly, carefully, ready to raise his rifle at any moment. Silent except for the faint rattle of his gear, and the muffled sound of his breathing through the gas mask he wore.

Nozomi tapped her gas mask to check if it was secure. Once satisfied, she walked forward with her spell copies already at the ready.

Shoan's heart thundered in her chest as she checks her rifle one last time. Outwardly the Lion is calm and steady as ever but there was always a rush of adrenaline before any real fight.

With a satisfying click her rifle is armed and ready and she moves to stand between Nozomi and whatever might be lurking in the fog....

As the group approached the awkward turn in the path toward the house, they could see that there was a long figure standing there openly, almost expecting them. It meandered around the front of the building almost in an erratic patrol.

It was the exact monster that Hyeon-ju encountered in Shantytown on her fateful encounter with Isawa Shin. It looked worse for wear this time but still committed to its unholy duty. Worst still, it was just as horrifying, its existence reeked of blasphemy and a promise of a fate worse than death.

Fully geared up, Yul wasn't exactly quiet. But his nerves were steady, and he was ready for whatever was coming.

Nozomi saw the figure ahead. Even though her visual novels certainly would never depict such creatures, she was nonetheless dauntless against them. She walked with careful steps too, seemingly a much more serious version of herself than the usual goof.

Hyeon-ju felt herself tense up at the sight of the monster, but fear did not grip hold of her heart. Chiyoko-san, give me strength.

Still, she was not used to sneaking up on an enemy like this...

The clacking of armour and various gear was more than enough to put the foul unholy creation on alert, letting out a massive howl to alert everything around it. The cry was loud enough to startle some screamers who even left the area in haste.

The zombie is 30' away.

As the creature is mid roar Shoan unhurriedly raises her gun, sights for half a moment, then puts a long burst straight into its torso.

Shoan's marksmanship is particularly impressive, shooting the weakened zombie square in the chest to collapse its skeletal structure from within in almost like a freak accident. There is nothing left by gore and chunks on the floor.

However...more howling and cries came from the outpost, two more fungal zombies burst out from the open entryway and made its way toward the gang with furious abandon. Their arms extended forward, eager for blood.

The zombie took the two shots from the Unicorn successively. It would have given enough for anyone to doubt their decision. However, it was a zombie and didn't care.

The side compartment of lifted its door and out stepped a monstrosity that Shinjo Yul was very familiar with. It was at least two zombies stitched together to create something so foul. It dragged its toy alongside with it, a long pipe with all manner of debris stuck at the end. Despite taking a moment to open the door, it was closer than its compatriots and moved to join them.

Monstrosity move 30' to now be 10' away from the group.

Isawa Shin emerged from the outpost after the two zombies ran out. He was vain and conceited but he could also be practical when need be. He was dressed in a black rubber sealed outfit with a gas mask, speaking in a muffled tone quite familiar to what Shinjo Yul had heard on the ship.

"Magnificient, isn't it? I never quite got around to accomplishing another masterpiece like this one. However, I think I'll make another one with all of your lovely body parts. Wouldn't that be a wonderful collaboration we could do together?"

After his brief diatribe, he meandered over to the truck to take cover.

"Kill them all."

Isawa Shin took a simple action to speak way more than five words and moved to take cover. He now has cover of +5TN. Isawa Shin is 40' away from the group.

"Fudge you, bad person!" Nozomi shouted before bringing up her prayer sheet to her nose. A quick recital that was just barely enough to appease the kami before she scurried behind the thighs of the Utaku.

The zombie took the powerful and sudden attack from Shoan as she managed to tap out another shot. However, it miraculously still remained standing and still on route to its warpath.
