 Post subject: Teenage Demon Hunters

Because a few have asked for it, going to share the plot/summary for the two seasons of the show Nara is a star of. Note this is on the Spider network, so unless you connect to that you may not have seen it...however the internet is the internet :D

Basic plot: Teenage Demon Hunters is a show based in a city called Willow. It's a normal city, except for an exceedingly high unsolved murder rate; this is due to the fact the city has a portal to the demon world in a local cemetery. One day a girl called Mia accidentally discovers the portal while visiting the grave of her brother who was one of the mysterious deaths. In there she witnessed a fight between a someone that looked human and a demon. The human was losing the fight and being disarmed the gun landed near her. Afraid, she picked it up as a comfort item (a gun protects after all), and the guns spirit spoke to her, encouraging her to help the human. It guided her to shoot the weapon, which blasted the demon to pieces and returned her and the human to the real world again.

The human was really a spirit who had been fighting beyond death to try and save the city (and the world). When Mia picked up the gun, she accepted the responsibilities of a demon hunter, and the spirit thanked her before vanishing. Now Mia must balance a normal life of learning and caring for her sick father along with fighting demons and other creatures that want to pass through the portal from the demon world into the human world.

The world and the series have no obvious clan mentions; the studio insists that it is clan neutral. Avid fans of the show however note that the sky in the demon world is a navy blue more often seen worn by the Crab, and the demon world castle is a large structure surrounded by an imposing looking wall....

Season 1:

Main characters of Season one:

Mia (Played by Susumu Nara, for a while known as Susumu Miaka until it was discovered who she was)
Mia is the main character of the show, the one that becomes the demon hunter. The show starts off showing her as the typical unpopular kid; the quiet type who was picked on by the popular kids but wasn't smart enough to be noticed. Even worse, she was forced to care for her family. Her mother had died in childbirth, so her and her older brother Maru were raised by their father who was now suffering from a terminal condition that left him bedridden. When her brother was mysteriously killed, it left Mia having to manage everything alone; in the first episode you learn it had been 8 months since her brother died, and her father had been this way for around a year. After she found Tenshi (the rifle) she then had to balance trying to continue as normal at school, looking after her father, and fighting the demon world. Her character becomes more strong willed as the season goes on, even standing up to the most popular girl in school and pushing her down in front of everyone, which earned her some cheers and a little respect in the school until everything was closed down.

Her catchphrase is "Hope you're having a blast" which is usually the last thing she says before firing the rifle (the rifles sigh afterwards is almost as trademark as the saying, and one could imagine the rifle would be facepalming if it could).

Tenshi (Voiced by famous actor Susumu Nori)
Tenshi is a rifle with the spirit of the first demon hunter, created in a ritual that bound Azrenia the demon overlord to his Kyuden in the heart of the demon world. Tenshi chooses the hunters based on strength of will and heart; only those with the strongest will can face the hordes of the demon world. Tenshi was able to become invisible, and remained with Mia for the series. His witty comments about teachers almost got Mia in trouble many times as she had to stop herself either laughing or telling the invisible rifle off. When the demon hunters powers are channeled through Tenshi, the rifle glows red before a shot of pure light is fired from it.

Azrenia the demon lord (played by Daigotsu Arora)
Bound to his castle for over a thousand generations, Azrenia was the lord of the demon world despite being unable to leave his castle. The only way he could be freed was through a ritual known as the Blackening, where the blood of a hundred innocents was spilled in a sacred spot within the city at the same time. Azrenia is freed at the end of season two, with the show on a cliffhanger until it returns. Azrenia is over 10 feet tall, with navy blue skin and four arms.

Aki (played by Susumu Yori)
The most popular boy at the school. Multiple time champion at running, he had the world at his feet. He was also Mias next door neighbour, and it was heavily implied that Mia had a crush on him, although no romance was ever detailed in season one (which made sense after it was known that Mias actress was not at gempukku age). Although they knew each other, neither really spoke until one night where Mia saved Aki from being eaten by a demonic horse. After this they became friends, although at school Aki would often avoid talking to Mia due to their places, but this stopped when Mia stood up to the popular girls.

Emi (played by Kitsune Akihiko)
The popular girl at school, and implied to be Akis girlfriend, Emi could do what she wanted and get away with it. Her father was rich, and she swanned around the school in the most expensive things. She took great pleasure in bullying the weaker kids, and Mia was one of her main targets because she rarely spoke back. She started to lose her popularity after Mia pushed her around, and became the embodiment of the main evil from series one when she accidentally made a pact with Azrenia at a sacred demon world spot by saying she would do anything to get Mia back.

Honagi-sensei (played by the venerable Susumu Jiro)
The headteacher of the school, Honagi-sensei always seemed to appear after events where Mia had fought, but never soon enough after to say he saw what happened. He always had some sage advice for her, and often Mia was able to get into school by gates being left unlocked which always hinted back to Honagi. Some people believe that Honagi might be a demon that turned good, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

(There's also some other teachers and students, which you're welcome to make up for mannerisms. Only Aki, Emi after demon pact and Honagi sensei seem to know what Mia is, although the last one is still a rumour).

Summary of Season One

In season one we see Mia as her shy self, and her life as she goes from the shy girl to the demon hunter. There are some comedic moments where she points the wrong end of the gun at the demon, and her learning how to fight the demon world. There is little fanservice in this series, and no romance. The focus of the season is around Azrenia trying to enact the Blackening, only to be stopped by Mia. It seemed he would be thwarted forever until he overhears Emi crying while sitting in an abandoned building that happened to be an alter to the demon world. Pretending to be a spirit, Azrenia offers Emi a pact saying he would help her put an end to Mia if she invited him to help her. Emi, desperate, agreed. This allowed Azrenia to possess the woman, turning her into a human-demon hybrid of Azrenia. The series finished with Mia having to choose between killing Emi and banishing Azrenia or allowing him to become free as he finishes the ritual. Without any choice, Mia tearfully raised Tenshi and whispered, "I'm sorry", firing the bullet through Emi-demons head and killing her, ending the threat of Azrenia.

This scene hardened Mia, and she can be seen walking away from the city as the credits roll for the final episode, leaving watchers unsure if she was leaving (and the show ending) or not. There was great relief when a second season was confirmed.

Season 2:
(will write up season two tomorrow)
All of the main characters in season one are still in season two, with the following new/alterations to characters also:

Emi (still played by Kitsune Akihiko)
Believed to have been killed after being shot by Mia, it seems the hit instead doomed the girl to the demon world as we discover four episodes in when Emi is seen chained to a wall wearing very little and being attacked by an angry Azrenia. This appears to be punishment for failing the pact by allowing Mia to get the better of her.

Wyn (played by Susumu Miki)
A transfer student, Wyn seemed like a ordinary boy until there were hints of ulterior motives in his actions. In the third episode it was shown that he knew of the demon world, when his mere presence caused a demon to flee that was going to strike Mia from behind. Towards the later parts of the series it was discovered that he was in fact half demon.

Maru (played by Susumu Arora)
Believed to be dead, Maru appeared in the fifth episode in front of Mia with an evil grin. It turns out he wasn’t killed, just pulled into the demon world, and corrupted, his mind turned to being focused on killing his sister and bringing the Blackening so his master could be freed.

Ami (played by Susumu Taika)
In the class below Mia, Ami is a simple happy-go-lucky girl that seems to have incredibly bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She often turns out to be one hunted by, attacked by or captured by a demon with alarming regularity. The reason for it was discovered late in the series, as the necklace she had worn since she was a child contained a pure substance that would be used to either kill a demon or empower them if it had gotten into the wrong hands.

Summary of season two
Season two starts with the class register being read out, until it gets to Mias name. Mias seat is empty, and the teacher calls out the name a few times, leaving the viewer to think she wasn’t going to answer…until she did, standing in the doorway. Her hair, which was longer in the first season, was cut short and she had piercings in both of her ears, a stark contrast to her look in the first series as a quiet well-behaved girl. Her attitude seemed to have done a 180 as well. She was nasty, she smoked, and she flirted with boys and girls. Walking back from school with Aki she made a move on him, before pinning him against a wall. As she pressed against him, and her lips being inches from his… BANG.

Blood splattered everywhere, and Mia slid down Aki to the floor. Behind her was…Mia. The Mia we knew before though, with the longer hair. She explained that she had gone into a hunting mode, tracking demons, only to discover that most had retreated, and the current horde were ones that could impersonate other people. This one had been impersonating Mia because they believed she was out of town. The next episodes have Mia and Aki hunting at night using a device Mia had created with the help of Tenshi to track down the demon essence of these transformed demons. It wasn’t not entirely accurate, leading to amusing scenes of Mia breaking into the wrong house and having to quickly flee from an angry adult or large dogs.

At the end of episode 5, as Mia was about to slay one of the demons, it spoke in a voice made her pause. As it turned round, Mias eyes grew wide; it was her brother, Maru, turned to serve Azrenia. The pause gave him a chance to escape, and the following four episodes we are shown his plans while Mia struggles to overcome everything. Her brother used tricks to keep her occupied, such as taking advantage of his family ties to enter Mias home and torment their ill father. It took the assistance of Wyn, revealing his demon world links, to bring Mia to her senses and make her realise she needed to end this threat once and for all. They discovered together that the plan was to capture Ami and use her necklace to break Azrenias bonds without the ritual, and they raced to the ritual spot to confront Maru. After a long intense fight which crossed between the real world and the demon world, Mia was able to overcome her brother and as she was about to finish him, something distracted her; Emi being freed and running to her. This distraction was enough for Maru to jump away, slicing the throat of Wyn in the process. As he collapsed, the numbers around the room lit up, showing the scattering of dead bodies.

It was too late, the Blackening had been completed. Azrenia rose from the floor, laughing evilly, before vanishing. Leaving Mia holding the dying Wyn in her arms. Ami, not understanding the situation, gave Mia her necklace. Telling her it was blessed to save people. Mia pressed the necklace to Wyns neck, the essence saving his life and purging the demon side from his body at the same time.

With Wyn saved, Mia and Wyn began to plan how to deal with the now escaped Demon overlord. Which is how the season ends.

Season 3 is on hiatus due to the stage issue.
