He blinks a moment. "Uh. Sure. Let me get my densai and you can fill it out."

"I'd not say no," Chiyoko nodded. She pulled up her own information on her Densai, ready to send it over to whoever wanted it.

"No, not likely. And he is the first to actually carry it in several generations. Usually it is kept in a shrine to Seppun Hanako within the castle, and maintained carefully by the family. But a few times in our history, those that have led the family chose to carry it when they were practitioners of iaijutsu or kenjutsu. Only the daimyo is permitted the honor of doing so, and I am not going to be the next daimyo."

Michiya gladly shares his communicator information with anyone interested. Taking down the others if offered.

Ishiyo smiles as the Matsu of all people immediately leaps to the offer, if a Lion could then anyone can. "Sending it now." She sends a....future space friends request from: Inu-Tai-i_Wan-Wan!!

"Thank you Matsu-san, Hanako-sama." The Crane dips her head in a small bow.

Tenma waits impatiently, tapping her foot despite herself, bowing before taking the pulled up thing and starting to pace with it again.

"Mmm, inane surveys. How very orderly," she mutters to herself as she looks things over.

Chiyoko accepted the friend request, and in return the others got friend requests from Max_Range_31. "Yes. Thank you both. I'll look forward to getting to know you both better before, you know, we end up in odd competitions to determine which of us can make the most sensible spousal choices. Or however the hell this works. I assume there's a lot of paperwork." The word paperwork was like acid in Chiyoko's mouth.

She'll see the densai is currently set to only display the page of the questionnaire, with the ability to fill it out. The densai has got a number of stickers on it that appear to be prayers to the Fortunes.

"Those of you who've filled out the questionnaire should have my contact info." he offers happily. The happiness goes away at Chiyoko's feelings towards paperwork, so he goes back to watching the Scorpion wander around with his densai.

"My training was filled with all manner of paperwork. The bureaucratic functions of the government are... impressively onerous. It's not my favorite thing, but it is necessary," he replies with a shrug.

"Yes...papeh work is tedious at the best of times." She laughs softly, "I remembeh ou-eh squadron commandeh spending a whole day practicing iaijutsu as an excuse to avoid papeh work, then having to stay up the whole night while the ship's XO stood oveh him like a hawk. The squadron commandeh cursed up a storm the next day, a surprising break of one's on fo-eh a membeh of my clan."

"Of course I got stuck with feeling out afteh action reports all the time. Had to account fo-eh were my munitions had been used and fo-eh each of the enemies I had encountered. Even when I was able to report a kill it was excessively tedious."

"But amazingly beneficial to those in the courts who use your reports to their benefit." Mal-Chin speaks up on behalf of paperwork.

"Plotting out the path of battles via those reports lets them know when the battle is as good as over and thereby apply pressure for better concessions."

Ishiyo chuckles again, "Well...yes that is true Asako-san. But a lot things that are necessary and useful are also tedious. Of course the work is appreciated but it doesn't make it any fun."

"Do you not have those of the lower castes you can trust to fill in such paperwork, Hanako-sama? Even a magistrate has doshin for such things, so I would think an Imperial could get any number of scribes or software to compile such things."

Not that she stopped paying attention to the survey, or where she was going. But it seemed worth chiming in; The thought of a samurai wasting their time writing minutiae when there was a big galaxy out there that needed them seemed unbearable to her.

"Especially in military matters, there are always things that should not be left to peasants," Chiyoko commented. "Or so my tactical instructor told me. Something about delegation only being good when you do it well."

"When it comes to paperwork in bureaucracy, those at lower levels fill out their own documents, that are sent up for editing, review and approval. Who then send their work up and so on. Each level compiles their data into reports for the next level up, eventually creating an accurate but wide view of everything below. When a question comes up about specifics, the paper trail can be followed down for more specific detail. It's all to make sure there is precision in recording of events and if people don't do their part then their are gaps in the data that can lead to improper decisions. It is tedious but it ensures proper function of the bureaucratic process."

She finally stopped moving to turn and look at Michiya through her mask, "It just seems like a waste, is all; Thousands of years of culture and training and science for what? Filling out and editing forms. Smooth running bureaucracy or not. Samurai are meant to lead, not read. At least, to an extent."

"Well it seems to me that just as our technology for keeping records has gotten advanced. So have the problems we have to solve." She nodded to herself, "I am but experienced with wa-eh....well not entirely true I know something of fatheh's commercial dealings, but I do not recall any ancient samurai having to worry about keeping enough guided missiles to supply a fighteh unit. Oeh the spare parts to keep the planes flying. All that requires records so you know when to ordeh more. It would be a waste to produce more then you needed."

His voice a bit dry, "I think you might find that a leader who reads is able to find out what's passed before, often thereby leading better then they would have without. Or," he gestures towards the borrowed densai in her hands, "allows people like us to share information with others, letting us better know our surroundings, our company, and our past."

The Scorpion waved a hand dismissively, "I'm not talking about learning, I'm talking about minutiae. The reason we delegate is so that we don't need to know everything, so we can have specialists who have knowledge about what we need to know. Now, more than ever, that's important; No general worth there salt tries learning the names of every feature and soldier on a battlefield, they guide those under them and ask for information as it is relevant. Same with a merchant, or a magistrate. General knowledge and great leadership skills will always win out for a samurai over deep insight and poor leadership skills."

"How are great leadership and deep insight opposing things?" He holds up a hand, "I admit, I'm biased, having trained with the Asako Loremasters. Great leadership skills will win out over poor leadership skills when you're talking about being a leader. But how does general knowledge or deep insight change either?"

"I think the point is that if yer too focused on the minutiae, you can't see the bigger picture," she pointed out gently. "Deep insight and deep leadership ain't opposed no, but a great general knows at least something about a fuck ton of stuff."
