Akemi wasn't exactly sure what was happening, but it was unlikely to be a good surprise. She put her hand behind her back, showed up a second of hesitation about what to grab exactly, then instinctively went for the tetsubo.

"Yeah, fine..." Eriko groaned back. She tried to shift over with all the various scraps of metal and pipes under her that made the previous floor that gave way, "that's a trip..."

However, they weren't the only ones in the room as there was a sort of guttural cry from inside the cramped room. There was the stench of decay and old fungi that filled the room. The room was dark and Eriko's shoulder lamp was pointed to only the ceiling at the moment. There were the bones of a large lizard that littered the middle of the room.

It perhaps was worst still for those samurai outside of the room and standing above the fallen samurai. From around the bend, there was the echoing of the same screams. The faint like showed the shadows of several shapes and they were converging on the samurai, their steps echoing throughout the enclosed maintenance hall.

Yul shot a quick glance back at the hallway, and then down the hole, his lips pressing into a thin line. Shifting his rifle to his left hand, he pulled the rope from where it attached to his pack. Gripping it firmly, and with a little guidance from left hand's fingers, he tossed a length of it down into the hole, still holding onto the rest.

"Hide-san." Yul grunted. "Give me a hand." With his left hand, he aimed his rifle-mounted flashlight down into the hole...

"Got it!" Hide grabbed onto the rope with both hands, she looked down over the hole at the light shining from Eriko. "Grab on!"

She then shot a look to Akemi to cover them.

Yul flashed his light below in the cramped room. While there were places to hide, there weren't that many corners to see exactly. It didn't take for him to find the other occupant of the room.



It was a man, or what used to be a man, with several fungal growths stacked atop of him. It almost seemed like there were many local fungi that were fused on to his body and the tattered clothes he wore suggested that he was a servant of the local colony. When the light was shined on his 'face', he let out another gutteral cry at those around him.

Everyone please make a Fear 2 check. The TN is 15.

Akemi walked forward, both hands firmly wrapped on her tetsubo, determined to keep the creatures away from the impromptu rescue mission.

"On it! Come on you suckers!"

Her voice was ringing with a confidence that her inner self might not share, but her Crab-trained instincts were enough to keep her focused.

Hide... Didn't like this. She didn't like this at all. She hid it well, but there was ever the slightest shaking to her grip on the rope as she saw those things.

As the light shone down onto the bizarre fungal zombie Koseki just gritted his teeth. Rather than waste time standing up he leveled his rifle and shot the thing from his prone position. "Get moving Eriko-san. Now!"

The radiant shot struck the zombie right in the chest. As impressive as that was, it did nothing to change its attitude and only encouraged it to become more hungrier for Firefly flesh. Having no concept for preservation, it charged at Koseki and leaped onto him. Its claw-like hands, fused with fungi that almost made it look more like a carapace, found its mark and slashed Koseki.

From around the bend, more of the zombies emerged and began to make their advance toward the samurai. The shambled and staggered over at a hurried pace but it looked like they were going to be there quite soon.



They are at 60 feet away now.

"Shit!" Eriko cried out when the zombie pounced onto Koseki and quickly staggered to her feet. She looked at the Firefly and back above. It seemed everyone as in danger at the moment. Her gut instinct was to help the person in front of her but she wasn't going to leave the Matsu standing with the rope like an idiot either. She ran up to the rope and held on to be lifted out.

Grim-faced, Yul leveled his rifle at the creature attacking his friends. With unerring accuracy, he fired at his, the rapport of his rifle echoing through the room.

"Let's find a way out!" He called, sweeping the room with his light, looking for an exit.

Hide pushed through the shaking feeling she had when looking at those... Things. She had a singular goal right now: pull Eriko up. She started hauling the Kuni up, getting her to the floor they were on before letting the rope fall back down in the hole. "Cover me. Gotta get Koseki-san."

Seeing the enemies were farther away that she initially thought, Akemi hesitated to switch to her firearm... Then decided she might as well make good use of the opportunity to update the battlefield to a more favorable configuration. Her doubly reinforced, metal and metal, shoulder hit the uncooperative door with a bang.
