Joo-Woo, not beign successful, decided to try a different approach. Scrolling through his densai, he found what he was looking for. Murmuring an incantation, he approached the flying lizards...hopefully still in a safe distance.

"Konnichiwa minna-sama." he said in lizard tongue

Koseki kept his rifle raised just in case any lizards decided to take exception to whatever the heck the Iuchi was doing. There was no obvious sign of the sidearm. He wondered if the creature that attacked Yul had eaten it out of spite, or taken it as a trophy.

Tal glanced up at the fuzzy winged lizards a frown crossing his lips as a thought struck him.

"Hey Shinjo-san. Do you think those things are what we ate in the bar the other day?"

"Kweeeh!" the flying lizards would reply, to the effect of 'These fish are ours, sod-off'.

Joo gave a bow and...left the flock (murder?).

"Ah, I tried speaking with them to see if they were willing to help, but it seems they are occupied with their prey, and I figured it wise not to agitate or provoke them." He smiled. "Any luck, anyone?"

Grimacing, Yul looked around. "Not me. You guys? I'm hoping I didn't drop it right into the gullet of that damn drifter."

Still, he kept poking about, pausing briefly as the largest blotch of dried blood.

"Well there is something shiny out in the water about right there." He lifted his rifle go his shoulder and indicated a place at the edge of the water.

"Hope it's not your sidearm though."

Yul tended to be brave, often to the point of foolhardiness, but standing next to an enormous blotch of your own dried blood tended to give one thoughts about mortality. Further, of course, the creature had come out of the water...

Yul's jaw set. "Right. Cover me." He stepped into the water, holding his rifle up. Bending down, he dug into the mud... eventually coming up with a decidedly waterlogged pistol.

He grimaced, stepping back onto shore. "Well, that's no good." He flipped in his hand, holding it out to Joo-Woo. "Any chance you can do something with that?"

At 'Cover me' Hayato went down to a knee again his rifle returning to the low ready. "I think she's dead, Joo. No harm in trying though."

"Do you think those flying lizards tried to drag it to their nests and dropped it there? Or were you just digging through Drifter manure?"

Yul made a face. "Great, thanks for that thought. I'm definitely taking a shower once I get back." Still, he flashed the man a quick grin.

Joo grimaced. "Ie, I am sorry, but the fire kami are not my strong suit." He did seem to be sorry." Perhaps Nakouchi-san can give it a try? She has better proficiency than me."

Yul's lips quirked. "I'll check."

Shouldering his rifle, he began walking back to the Ornithopter. "Thanks for the help, guys. I really appreciate it." He looked around. "Anything else you wanna check out while we're here?"

"Happy to help." Hayato offered with a smile in return.

Taking a quick look around, the Mantis shrugged. "Unless someone thinks they can summon up one of those Drifters. I'm done here."

"Well it's not a total loss. I found some mushrooms." Koseki grinned at Yul as he waded in to the water. The rifle was ready for any disturbance turning out to be a drifter.

As Yul returned with the soaked pistol the Firefly kept his eyes on the water. "Well, I could take a quick look if you like? Might need a Weaponsmith though."

"oh, mushrooms? What kind?" Joo perked up.

He pointed over at a small cluster of sac-like mushrooms. Occasionally one of them would emit a small puff of spores.

"I wouldn't breathe 'em in, but there they are."

Yul frowned. "Seems like there aren't too many mushrooms up this high. I wonder if it's a seasonal thing, maybe?"

He offered the pistol to Koseki, but it was clear pretty quickly that it would require a shugenja's attention.

Lowering the rifle he accepted the offered weapon with appropriate reverence. Turning it a few times he tilted it so that the barrel pointed down. Some water dropped out.

Next he gave it a gentle shake. Then held it up to his ear and jiggled it a bit. Eventually he handed it back.

"In my professional opinion, it's fucked. "

Yul snorted. "Yeah. Sounds about right. Thanks anyway, bud." He raised a fist in a kind of Unicorn-style salute.

He glanced at the mushrooms again, making mental note of them, and then shrugged. "Well, unless anyone wants to take a sample of those, we should probably head out."

"Could be the Phoenix might like them...." Hayato replied trailingviff for a moment. "But they couod be poisonous too, so unless anyone has something to collect them with." He shrugged.
