"I wasn't the old one to lose parents there. Um, Mika, one of the shrine maidens also lost her mother so." he explaining, somehow smiling still. "I mean, I was crying my eyes out for weeks but, eventually the pain went away. Eventually you figure you have to keep living. I think I've done just fine." Saneyuki shrugged. "It's a different life, that's for sure. I've been to the city few times and I always feel so out of place there. Pretty claustrophobic. I can't even imaging how the life would be in a real, big city."

"Oh, what were people arguing a lot?" he asked Moriko, turning to look at her.

“Uh, no,” Moriko shook her head. “The work is hard, by the end of the day most of the samurai just want to eat and rest. They’ll put on music or a movie, and you can hear every shower running, every toilet flushing.” Usual apartment block sounds, but without the white noise of a city behind it.

"Mhmm. Back at the shrine, you'd hear the jungle come alive in the night. The screamers, the peacock lizards, the flippers and the gliders. All crying out through the night. I mean, of course back then I didn't think it was anything strange. Then, I had to stay in the city when I was, fifteen I think. Suddenly the night was alive with vehicles people. Didn't sleep at all my first night there." he chuckled. "Creatures of habit, us all." Saneyuki peered to see what Pippi was doing. "Which is what we should try to avoid."

"It can be hard to sleep in a strange place," Moriko hadn't experienced that the nights she spent at the Shrine, and she blushed lightly as she she heard in her head how it sounded that she'd spent the night in Saneyuki's room. "The ranch is like somewhere between the two. The sounds of other people nearby, and the jungle in the distance. I think I like the jungle sounds better, but the people sounds make me feel less lonely."
