AUTOPLAY ADVERTISEMENT FOR 'STARLIGHT MIKO CRUSADERS REAL KYUJUTSU ACTION DOLLS' ENDS
HIGH SHOT OF CROWDS IN VENDOR AREA
CUT TO MID SHOT OF... A SMALL TREE????
TREE:
"Heya mates, we're takin' a break from the miai excitement here on Asakaze to bring you a little look at a different kind of event... Fan-Con! Oh, wait a tick."
HAND EMERGES FROM FOLIAGE AND PULLS AWAY A BUNDLE OF LEAVES AT FACE HEIGHT. UNDER THE DISGUISE, IT'S ATSUMORI
"That's better. Where was I? Oh, right. If you're on Ujimitsu or someplace else with big cities, you might have been to one yourself, but over here Asakaze is havin' its very first Fan-Con ever. Let's see if I can fit in here as well as out in the forest, eh?"
Perhaps Atsumori's makeshift ghillie suit wasn't
quite what the convention organizers meant by 'cosplay,' but the volunteers who waved him in did have to admit it was effective. He'd fashioned similar kinds of camouflage many times before, after all. "Ooh, you're, like, an Asakaze version of Master Tree from 'Teenage Lizard Princess' Season five!" one young volunteer exclaimed as she dragged him closer to snap a picture.
"Right on. We'll go with that," Atsumori agreed with a cheerful shrug.
Little Atsumori had always been more interested in playing outside than watching cartoons, but his sisters had been highly invested in Starlight Miko Crusaders and frequently drafted Atsumori to play whichever role they and their friends were missing that day--sometimes the villain, though more often Yoritomo Rei on account of his willingness to set aside common sense and climb trees to replicate her signature 'strike from above!' double kama attack. He figured he could remember enough to get through the trivia event, and maybe even win his younger sister an Asakaze souvenir she'd appreciate. The actual fine details of the Starlight Miko corpus were much more numerous and varied than he'd ever realized, however, and he utterly bombed the trivia, though he salvaged the family pride somewhat by reeling off Yoritomo Rei's Miko Incantation from memory. He'd just have to buy his sisters something local in the exhibit hall instead of winning it for them, he supposed.
As he strategized the best way to gain more resource cards in his round of Space Colonist, he wondered--not for the first time--why nobody ever made a game where you
stopped colonists from stripping a planet's resources. Sure, he managed to snag more 'mountain tuna' and 'lumber' cards than anybody else at his table, and that was great, but a real colony couldn't just keep logging the same spots indefinitely, it just wasn't realistic. Nature didn't work that way, and sooner or later it got its own back...
