Atsumori plowed through a few more yards of bush with his gun still trained on the shrine maiden... then made a snap decision and switched his aim to the masked cultist. Moriko could take out the girl in another moment if she was still able to shoot, and if she wasn't, she could at least guard Hoshiko against radiant fire--the same couldn't be said for spells.

Adrenaline made the blood pound in his ears. This was the scenario all Shiba trained for from their earliest day in the dojo: protect the priests, defend against heretical magic. But it wasn't the path he'd chosen for himself, and this was the first time he'd really felt those instincts kick in.

He squeezed off a shot, and the sticky webbing expanded as it flew through the air...
