It was a bit hardtop pretend he hadn't just had his arm wrapped around Hyeon-ju, his had on her thigh. Hayato at least tried, rising to his feet as the pair entered the room to create a bit more space.

"Roght." He cast a glance to Hyeon-ju. "Let me help you with those Nakauchi-san."

Mumei passes the glasses to Hayato. "They've got a nice yuzu cider on tap too, but I didn't want to change anything up without asking." She's careful to keep her smile cheerful as you'd expect having a fun night with friends, though it takes on a bit more mirth when she turns to take one of the glasses Yul carries for herself.

"Ahhhh..." Yul had been staring, his eyes flickering back and forth between the two. It was only when Mumei took the glass from him that he recovered. "Right. So, who's next?"

He sat down on the sofa again, taking a moment to shoot Mumei a look, eyebrows way, way up. He turned back to the other... couple? To Hyeon-ju and Hayato with a smile. "Duets, right? You wanna go next, or should we? Don't know if you guys had time to pick one out while we were getting drinks." His lips quirked, just the tiniest bit.

"It was your suggestion." Hayato replied, taking both beers and handing one to Hyeon-ju. "So shouldn't you take the lead?" The Mantis suggested a slight smile on his lips.

"Plus i think I could still use a break from that last song I did." He added with a soft chuckle, before retaking his seat next to Hyeon-ju at a more proper distance.

"I uh...'m still not sure which song to pick for a duet. They've never been my strongest thing." Looking very intently at the catalogue. THE MOST INTERESTING CATALOGUE!

Still, she had a somewhat... sheepish smile as she accepted the beer from Hayato. Yul had probably never seen Hyeon-ju actually look embarrassed, like someone caught with their hand in the cookie-jar.

Mumei quietly pretended not to notice the tension as she sat down beside Yul again, sticking to the 'my this couch is small' distance that the couch didn't really warrant. Her lips twitch a bit at his raised eyebrows though.

And her smile comes a bit easier as she picks up the mike. "Yeah, we can go next. You have an idea before I go scrolling in search of inspiration?" she asks Yul.

"I'll bet." Yul said blandly.

Clearing his throat, Yul turned to Mumei. "Yeah, okay, I got one. Let's give this a try." His smile lingered on her a moment as he reached out, taking the microphone, and holding it so that they could both sing.

It was a familiar song, from a classic Imperial movie about two lovers. It started off slow, but grew as the song went on, Yul singing with more and more energy... and less and less tunefully, swaying a little in his seat as he sang.

He paused for a long moment as the song finished, chest heaving, his eyes on Mumei's. Finally, with a casual smile, he sat the microphone down again. "Wow, I definitely need a drink after that one." He did as he said, taking a generous gulp from his glass.

Hayato was probably a bit closer then strictly nessacary when moved to help Hyeon-ju make a choice. But she was acting a bit cuter then usual and he was still a bit peeved about missing that second kiss.

He paused for a moment as Yul broke into song with Mumei though. Their singing was a bit in the realm of opposities but it was still nice to watch the pair together.

Mumei's familiar with the tune, and yet...she's awful at it. Too much attention paid to the tension? Too much effort trying to fine a key between the actual tune and Yul's? Whatever the reason, Mumei was visibly steeling herself to actually finish the song with a sort of horrified awareness of the sound of her own voice.

Her own drink was something to steady her hands while she tried to figure out where in the realms that had come from. Maybe possession. They hadn't actually made certain that Gilded King creature was actually completely incapacitated or anything...ok. probably not.

"um...your turn." she hands the mike over without further comment on the tune.

That...is certainly a roll

Hyeon-ju wouldn't admit it, but she had watched that movie countless times and she knew the lyrics well, but well... it was a very emotional song! Still, she listened very intently to the pair singing it, trying not to cringe at the places where it didn't quite hit off.

"That's a very nice song," she said at first to the two of them. "Did you see the movie too?"

Or well he expected the song to show the general duality of the pairs singing. What he got though was something else entirely. Still he clapped politely as they finished, taking a sip of his beer and letting Hyeon-ju chat with the pair as he searched for inspiration.

Finally finding something and silently pointing it out to the Utako hus eyebrow raised questioningly.

Leaning over for a closer look, Hyeon-ju had to think for a moment to remember the song... ah yes, she knew this one! "Oh, that's a good choice."

She cleared her throat and took another sip of beer.

"Well, guess it's our turn then. This one's a bit more of an oldie."

"Hmm...I may have seen it a good while back. It's mostly these older ones you get on the traders," Mumei says, before taking another sip of her drink at setting it down to focus on the singers

"So oldies aren't at all bad," she adds with a smile.

"I did." Yul said. "At the Academy." He shrugged. "I thought it was alright. Interesting, anyway. And some of the songs were good. I liked that one, anyway." Smiling, he leaned into Mumei a bit more, just for a moment, silent encouragement.

He chuckled, shaking his head. "I feel like maybe I'd appreciate it more now than I did as a teen. Anyway." He gave Hyeon-ju and Hayato a nod. "Let's see what you've got!"

"Yes, yes..." she nodded, a touch nervous. The last time she had did a duet was... pilot's night, and she'd been singing with Akihiko.

That was a sour memory now.

Holding their mics, the music began to play. An oldie for sure, it had been covered many times over the generations, and the one playing at the karaoke machine wasn't even the original one.



It wasn't Hyeon-ju's best performance, but she at least finished the song. Hayato was carrying that duet for sure.

"Alright." The Mantis replied with a nod, queuing up the song and leaning in close so he and Hyeon-ju could share the microphone.

Apparently this was one that the Mantis knew pretty well, because his singing matched that of the first tune he had sang. It was quite obvious he was enjoying himself too. At least if his smile was any indication.

The Osprey smiled to hear the old tune, and they sung it as well together as any pair of slightly inebriated samurai might. Her applause was as much about the fun social elements as the actual quality of the singing. And the lyrics...hit home tonight, with all the pairs, and not quite, maybe, ought to be pairs they'd been moving through at the festival. So Mumei's applause was more salute than cheer.

Looking over the catalog, her eyebrows rose a bit at a piece she knew as more of a club tune, shorter version, but the look of it. But catching the artist's names for the piece made her mind up, even if it was a racier tune than she'd usually pull up in mixed, and somewhat charged, company.

She highlights the tune before passing the list to Yul, with eyebrows raised in question and a playful grin. "A little risque, but it's got a great beat for dancing...if there were much room in here for that. Kind of surprised to see it."

Yul applauded along, smiling, as the other pair finished their song. "Hey, that was really good. Have a drink." Yul cleared his throat. That was probably being a little obvious. And while he'd caught something between Hyeon-ju and Hayato, he'd been the second through the door, and so wasn't totally aware of any special meanings.

Looking down at the list, Yul frowned. "I've heard it, but I don't know it well. Hmmm. I guess I could give it a go."

He looked up, spotting Mumei's playful grin. Yul's lips curled up to match it. "You know what? I'm in. I'll just follow your lead." Reaching out, he took the microphone, holding it in front of both of them.

"Wait, are we doing more duets?" she asked, as it seemed the lovebirds were readying themselves for another one.

"It certainly seems that way." Hayato replied with a chuckle. Taking Yul's advice and taking a healthy drink of his beer. "Are you alright with that?" Hayato asked, letting the closeness the duet had brought then to touch his knee to hers as he asked.
