"Infantry, huh? You ever do any ship work?" Yul asked.

He waved a hand. "Well, there's plenty of bikes. Or you want a bike and a car?" Yul chuckled. "You'll have to pick for right now, I guess. Not even I can drive a bike and a car at the same time."

It seemed to be a lot of people here for the miai. Crabs. Spiders. And Cranes too now.

A pity the Crane had thrown their lot in with the seedier side of the Empire, she thought, but maintained a perfect facade of civility. As was proper for a samurai.

"Not much to plan ahead for with only slightly less than two weeks planetside too. But it beats being on a cruiser, I suppose."

"I prefer my feet on the ground or just above it planet side. But, I have done boarding party work against pirates and such." He acts like he blissfully ignorant to being made fun of.

"I was just looking at bikes are now. I have no plans of doing bodyguard work, but if I am call have it, I like to be prepared, if it's all the same to you." He gives Yul a wry smile.

He looks back to Hyeon-ju, "Yes, I definitely like being here, over the alternatives."

He stays balanced, because he knows one or both of them could be part of a team he is on in the coming weeks.

"Oh?" she regarded him with a cool indifference on her features. "What alternatives would that be, Daidoji-san?"

"Well, being stuck in space, or dealing with the miai event. But, it's going to happen as much as I may not can much luck with the Crane ladies at school..." He shrugs and folds his arms. "Whatever, this may be different. I hope it is. It's hard be let your guard down around strangers, but have to also have honor and integrity too."

"Hm, yes, the point of a miai is to be seeking potential matches outside of your clan."

She looked to Yul, then back to Kamui, jerking her head in Yul's direction. "Maybe Shinjo-san will give you pointers on how to be let down by the ladies."

Yul had been following affably along, but that got his attention. He flashed her another of his slightly feral grins.

He shrugged. "Sooner or later it works out. What's the alternative? Better to be bold when you want something then never take a chance." He shot Hyeon-ju a look. "Although some folks might tell you differently."

"Bold, huh? Hum, well maybe now that I don't think I'm hawt sh---stuff, it might work now." He looks up to the sky.

He looks back at the two, and decides he doesn't need to know what that really meant.

Hyeon-ju just maintained her stoic expression of indifference.

"Anyway..." she said after a moment of quiet stand-off. "Do you think we can take any of these for a test drive before signing up for a rental?"

Yul smirked. "I sure hope so. There's only so much you can tell just by looking at a machine. You've really gotta take it out for a spin."

He walked leisurely over, giving a sleek black scooter a pat. "How about this one? Big enough for two, but looks like it has some power."

"I bet if we were in uniform they would. Ha. But, I don't normal have my wallet then." He chuckles to himself.

"Hum, I'm more interested in maneuverability, and torque." He starts looking around at emblems on the cowlings.

". . . I am in uniform," she remarked, with a cold confusion in her voice.

Shaking her head, she focused back on the machine that Yul had indicated, as she took out her densai to look at the rental place's information. "I wonder what the cost of insurances are for a rental." And what the rest of the paperwork looked like.

"Scooters aren't that impressive, to be honest. But I suppose it is better than a car in some circumstances."

"Insurance is probably a good idea." Yul mused. "And the acceleration is nice. This city isn't so big that you need a high top speed."

He shrugged, looking at Hyeon-ju. "There are some nice looking cars, though, if you wanna check one out. Although I'd bet on the scooter in a race."

He glanced at Kamui. "You know your way around an engine, Daidoji-san?"

"I know specs and a few things about turning radius and yaw angle. I'm not a mechanic or engineer by any means."

In a very remorseful tone, "I'm sorry, Utaku-san, that was meant in the royal 'we'. I did say I used to be very full of myself. Old habits death hard. I did not meant to offend you. Really." He looks at her boots, because he feels bad about what we said.

She didn't look like she believed him, but didn't push the matter further for now. Though the Utaku looked like the type of woman to remember a slight. "Let's speak no more of it." The words seemed frigid, even if delivered in a very polite tone.

"My understanding of mechanics is limited to our ships anyway," Hyeon-ju remarked as she returned her attention to the scooter. "Are you certain this one is for two riders, Shinjo-san?"

"Sure." Yul smirked, crossing his arms casually over his chest. "Just as long as the passenger sits close, and holds on tight."

He gave her a look, eyebrows going up. "That's the point, right?"

There was a narrowing of the eyes. "Yes, but we are not breaking any traffic laws while we're here."

Yul's smirk grew. "You court your way, Wasp, and I'll court my way."

He tilted his head. "Hey, you've gotta have some courting moves, right?" He looked at Kamui. "What about you, Daidoji-san?"

Kamui walks around a bike twice. "Hum, this Ducatimitsu looks like it might have the agility and torque I'm looking for."

Now if only they had it in blue or white...

"What?" He train of thought being interrupted. "Oh, yeah. I do have a lunch with the clan later today, so I'm sure things will work things out."

"Just assuming that things will work out is a very poor attitude to have, Daidoji-san. You could get chosen to marry someone belonging to a clan you care nothing for that you must then marry into, and they will assign you to some post that does not serve your skill or talent," Hyeon-ju commented as she put away her densai.

"A miai is a rare opportunity for a samurai to have a strong influence upon how they may best serve their clan but also in deciding their own future."
