He shakes his head, "That seems odd that there would be so many events at the same planet." He nods "I remember clearly, it was only like last week. I was getting ready for the Gempukku ceremony and found out that because of my high placement I could pick any assignment on the list. There was this diplomatic envoy to Asakaze looking for bushi, some of my classmates who were more politically savvy said that it would be great for my career to get such a prestigious posting early on, as security for our diplomats going to this conference. When I boarded the shuttle the other people on the shuttle filled me in that it was hosted by the Miya, and they were all here for it, and that it would be some interclan squad level tournament thing. Honestly I haven't gotten any written orders, I just got off the shuttle like an hour ago and I was going to try to find the clan embassy after dropping off my bag and Inu. "

The Spider raised an eyebrow as the Crane moved about, indicating to each of them, and listening to the Crab as he seemed... lost. The Obsidian Magistrate clasped his hands behind his back, and watched the Kuni.

There was concern in his features, "There is a reason so many young, unmarried Samurai have been sent to one location, Kuni-san."

The Utaku adopted a similarly military posture as the Daigotsu, at ease, with her hands linked behind her back.

"... You might have misheard. The Miya are not the hosts here, the Phoenix are. The Phoenix are hosting a mi-ai. A marriage festival."

"Well I mean a Mi-ai is kind of like a tournament right? I mean from what I have heard, but why would diplomats going to a Mi-ai need a security escort?"

Either he was dumb, or...

"... Kuni-san, can you repeat or read your mission-statement? Not what you remember, but the actual words?"

Anyway, that Kuni was most likely off the list for her.

"I am afraid I can't, it was supposed to be sent to my Densai when I signed up, but it never arrived, one of my classmates even double checked, nothing at all. It's weird. " He holds up the Densai in question. "But it's ok because the Yasuki-san explained it to me when he couldn't find the missive in my mailbox"

The most Spider like display came from Ryuu. "Kuni-san, I am afraid... you have some shit-heel 'politically-savvy' classmates." His voice was monotone, and level. The concern in his face remained, though there was a hint of anger.

"You have been sent without proper information to help arrange a marriage for yourself and your Clan. By omitting and deceiving you as a joke, they have set you up for failure, and worse, have insulted every other potential here at this miai."

His neck tilted upwards. "Your classmates are fuck ups. And were they Spider, they would be dealt with. Harshly."

It seemed she and the Daigotsu had the same idea.

"I must concur with Daigotsu-san. It would appear that you have been misinformed, Kuni-san, and it is as Daigotsu-san says."

"But....I would hate to insult any of the honorable Samurai at this conference, I am sure Yasuki-san couldn't have done such a thing on purpose. I mean he was right behind me in the rankings, he was all depressed because he didn't get this post. He had to settle for a position on the Admiral's staff instead. Why would he want this post if it wasn't a high profile one good for your career?"

"Yasuki-san sounds like a bitch." His eyes narrowed. "He was depressed because he likely felt that you earned the top spot that he felt was rightfully his. He didn't have the Will or the Strength to get to the top, so he took the underhanded route of convincing you to come here, than risk you taking the position he coveted. Yasuki-san sounds like a sniveling little festering boil that wanted to reside on the ass of an admiral somewhere."

Ryuu wasn't brash, but there was an inner rage that bubbled beneath the surface. "This is prestigious. A good match will bring resources and other important things to both Clans. Yasuki-san wanted you to make a fool of yourself, and shame you, the Phoenix hosts, and the rest, because he couldn't be the best." Ryuu stepped forwards.

"I will not let you make us all look like assholes. We will make sure you do well." A hand clapped on the Kuni's shoulder, perhaps a little harsher than normal.

Ichika, for her part, stepped back and just watched the bushi interact. It was.. well, awkward? Awkward. Yet, it was charming in how it was awkward and she tried to commit the scene to memory.

"Brave souls.." she said to herself, thoughtfully, how could the rest of the poem go. Ichika wondered, sat, watched and tapped her chin. Shaking her head, "no.. something else. Focus on the camraderie maybe?" she spoke softly to herself.

"I will at least assure you that I have no intention of speaking about this... misunderstanding with others. It is shameful enough that this Yasuki saw fit to fool a kinsman, but I am not so callous as to contribute further to his tactics."

The Utaku, seemingly for a moment like the noble Shiotome of the long distant past, stood with her back straight. "We will assist you in acclimating to the truth of your mission here, Kuni-san, and bring you up to speed as it seems you have been gravely misinformed."

Continuing, she spoke like the officer-in-training she hoped to be soon. "There is no conference hosted by the Miya. The Governor-General of Asakaze, Asako Naokuni, is hosting a celebration for Tanaba to be held here at Shiro Yoake. It is a marriage festival meant to foster goodwill and understanding between the clans, where young samurai from different clans have been invited to find suitable spouses from other clans with the assistance from Phoenix nakodo. The Phoenix stand to also gain profitable relations with other clans as the benefactors of these matches, and from what I heard the Governor-General's daughter is also taking part in the marriage festival, meaning that the Phoenix are also seeking a suitable spouse for Asako Nakouni-sama's family."

There. Mission statement delivered.

"But...I just went through Gempukku three days ago...aren't I like to young to get married?" His eyes go wide, "I mean I don't want to insult anyone's honor but I don't even know anyone here, except the ones on the shuttle who were really amused I didn't know about the competitions coming up, and you guys. Wait why did the shuttle people tell me the Miya were hosting? They seemed really happy about it too. I should prolly get ahold of them and warn them, they seem to have been misled too!"

"Wow," she commented from the back, searching for a place to lean her paper on but then spotting the desk. While she was moving over toward it she commented, "They really don't prepare you for the social stuff huh? Over in Kuni space," she tapped the pen to her chin as she sat.

"I was trained by the Kaiu, as a pilot. We didn't do a lot of diplomatic training, mostly how to fly jets, how to dismantle jets, how to build jets, how to do maintenance on our flight suits and weapons, you know standard pilot stuff."

"So we know you have intellect, and skill behind the stick." Ryuu paced slightly, trying to calm the anger that had been building. "You give your trust easily, it seems. Not insurmountable, but it does mean you will need to take great care during the festival, Kuni-san." He turned again, those intense blue eyes almost boring into the soul of the Engineer.

"Your homeworld. What is it. What is it known for. What are your family holdings like. What can you bring to the table that would make you stand out to a potential spouse?"

"My father is a great scholar, he is a Librarian in the Kuni Libraries. My mom she is a expert on animals and hunting, she trained me some in survival and zoological skills. My homeworld is Oka, it's a Crab moon with no Kami at all, the Kuni made it like our homeland, to make sure noone could spy on their research. I haven't spent my whole life there though, I spent some time on explorations with my mom, and of course was trained at the Kaiu Naval Academy"

That sounded like a pretty terrible place to live.

"So you're a pilot then. That might be of interest to several parties." She normally would've said the Unicorn, but Koryn was already removed from her list.

"Your mission, Kuni-san, is to best represent your Family, your Dojo, and your Clan - and to secure the best possible match. The one that will be most beneficial to your lord and clan." She pulled out her own Densai. "I had the privilege of sharing my shuttle with some of your fellow Crab."

Hyeon-ju read the notes of her densai. "Hida Akemi, Fundai Tetsu, and Yasuki Nishida. I regret to inform you that I do not have their communication info, but I am quite certain that Hida-san and Fundai-san will also be staying at this inn. My strongest recommendation would be to seek out them, as they are here for the same reasons as you, to best coordinate the efforts for your clan."

"Ooooor," Ichika was by the group on e more, rather suddenly. Poking her head out from around someone's side. "If you find someone you like, is a good match, and maybe.. want to try not being an unfeeling automaton, I can help," she said with a sly grin.

The Utaku frowned a little, though the remark wasn't something she was unused to. "I'm not an automaton, Doji-san. Nor unfeeling. I am merely concerned with meeting the task set before us with utmost capability to ensure success."

She sighed, taking a step back. "But, I acknowledge that sentimentality does factor in in cases like this, as it is preferable that two partners share some fondness and attraction to eachother."
