Atsumori munched on a strip of otori jerky as he swung open the door to his dormitory room. The welcome feast had been fine and all, but he'd been a mite too wound up to really fill his stomach. He was still in his good hakama, now a bit wrinkled from the rigors of, well, actually being worn for a few hours. He'd taken off his formal kataginu vest, though, slinging it over one shoulder in a treatment more usually inflicted on casual jackets and sport coats.

((Mori is not fussy about top/bottom bunk, so if Jin or Shizuku have preferred spots, we can say they've got them. If he had to choose, I suppose he'd probably pick a bottom one.))

Shizuku followed up behind him. She'd left the feast as soon as reasonably feasible. She was one of the super social Crane, and longed to return to her laptop. She had sprites to work on, and while charming people was good for marriage, it wasn't so good that. She was surprised to see one of the host Clan return to their room so early, though.

"Hi!" She said, partly to let him know she was behind him. She wore a sky-blue kimono with a pattern of elegant white-blossomed sakura branches along the bottom and sleeves, her formalwear for the event. "You must be one of the roommates. I'm Daidoji Shizuku." She smiled and headed over to the bottom-left bunk, which had a closed portable computer resting on it.

Atsumori hastily swallowed his mouthful of jerky. "Howdy." He ran a hand through his hair--which mostly just made it stick up in slightly different directions--and bowed. "Shiba Atsumori. Pleased to meetcha."

A look at the computer, and his brows drew in a little. "They made you bring work to this thing?"

"Nice to meet you, too, Shiba-san!" She smiled like a ray of sunshine at him, then glanced to the computer in surprise. "Oh! No, it's not work. I'm just a military grunt. It's for fun. I like making games. What do you do?"

Slowly a tall Hare entered the room, slightly swaying, and animatedly talking to a...tiny monkey?

"No, Yube, you cannot eat lizard meat. Onee-chan told you that. Don't make that face at me! If you won't start behaving you'll sleep in the sock again." He wagged his fingers at the monkey on his shoulder.

"Oh, gomen. Ujina Jin, Nikutai of the 101st Drop Trooper Brigade, from the 1st Spaceborne Battalion." Even after drinking, he got so good at introductions that he could nail it. Like he did now.

Nailed it!

She bowed a little deeper to the newly arrived Minor Clanner. "Oh, nice to meet you, Ujina-sama! And Yube-san. I'm Daidoji Shizuku, Hohei in the Crane marines."

"Heya, Ujina-san." Atsumori nodded in a friendly sort of way, then did a small double-take. "Oh, who's this little fella? Hello there, Yube. Where're you from? He looks like some sort of marmoset... right?"

With a considerable effort, he managed to recover enough attention for the humans in the room to answer Shizuku's question. "Me, Daidoji-san? I'm between right now. Just finished up an internship back on Old Rokugan, now I'm s'posed to get this miai business sorted before the next thing comes along."

"Erm...I have no idea, but I keep him on a tight diet?" That was almost an answer to...something!

"We're bunkmates then?" He asked curiously, but allow Yube to run amok and acquire new minions.

"Any beds taken?"

"Is that why he's so little?" Atsumori chuckled. "What a handsome little guy, aren't'cha?"

He glanced at the bunks and shrugged. "Nah, suit yourself. I'm not fussed."

"Been with me a year, and haven't grown, so this is him, I think." He allowed the little monkey to climb over to the Phoenix.

He glanced at the bunks, shrugging. "This your first miai?"

Atsumori shook his head... then chortled as the joke caught up to him. "The first as far as I know!" He was still talking as much to Yube as to the humans, as if the tiny critter might be in on the joke as well.

"I'd steer clear of anybody who answers Yes to that question, if I were you."

Jin did not intend it as a joke. "Why not? I'd assume they'd be experienced...I guess?" He once again managed to confuse himself. "Yube meanwhile seemed to occupy himself by chewing on Atsumori's finger.

"You should watch out for that, his teeth are sharp."

"Ah, no worries, I've been bit by much sharper." Atsumori chuckled, though he also deftly avoided letting the tiny simian get a really good grip with its jaws. "Uhm, well, if it's not their first miai, that means they already got married once, doesn't it? Unless they washed out. Can you wash out of a miai?" That wasn't a possibility that had even occurred to him before this moment.

"I'm pretty sure you can wash out of a miai if you or your performance doesn't impress the nakodo," she said, frowning thoughtfully.

"Ah, true I guess. It's been a different answer with everyone I spoke to about with this." He smiled. "Do you guys think we have a chance to find some real romantic love here?"The young Hare asked.
