Asako Mal-Chin trained at New Heaven’s Wing Dojo, sent by the people of Asakaze after his family and a number of monks were killed by one of the White Death while he was very young. Some students even found it faster to go to him for help on unique facets of history then do the research themselves, as he often already knew what to read and where to find it.

Doing the reading ahead of time let him spend time making music videos from the sights and sounds of the dojo, and after he graduated, of the courts he was assigned to. Occasionally he’s gifted them to the hosts of the courts, but more often than not he’s not noticed as an attache to the more experienced Loremasters that he serves as a researcher for, allowing the Phoenix a little more time for informed diplomacy.

After meeting Izumi for the first time most folks come away with one word in mind. Enthusiastic. Second and third meetings usually add intense, and possibly mental to the description. Izumi is full on, if not always successful.

He's rich and pampered, having been born into the Kitsune privileged class on Inari's Cradle. He shows this in having the most up to date electronics and fashions he can get his hands on. He loves the outdoors. He loves . . . doing things. He'll try nearly anything . . . at least once. Apparently he's a mid level manager in Kitsune Biopharmaticals - Perfumes Division. Kami help the poor Kitsune who have to work for him.

Appearance wise he makes a point of wearing good clothes, perhaps a little hap-hazardly chosen. The youngest child of a venerable and wealthy family, Daidoji Ishiyo is perhaps most noted for her generally cultured bearing...and enthusiasm for piloting. Her family line has controlled the venerable Peregrine Luxury Aerospace, Automotive, and Racing since it's founding back on the homeworld...making her a possible(but unlikely given her older siblings) heiress to perhaps the best known luxury craft manufacturer in the Empire. Despite being born to a life of luxury, it seems the young woman took to the Crane military and has successfully completed both her flight training under the Kakita and a tour of duty with the Crane Navy.

Always impeccable in dress, whether her tailored uniforms or the current Crane civilian fashions, Ishiyo does little to hide her family's wealth. Though to speak with her it seems born more of habit then any real attempt to show off. She wears fancy clothes and talks formally because she was raised to do so...

Akemi is the granddaughter of two co-founders of Aoishi Industry, a company specialized in funding small mining operations, owning raw material processing factories, and ripping the benefits. With too many siblings and cousins to tell, she won't inherit it outside the event of a galactic catastrophe, but she still gets to enjoy the money.

Part of the Crab military (infantry), she has been demobilized after an explosion took off her arm. However, since her organism seems to be accepting quite well the replacement fleshcraft (a gift from grandpa), she's expected to return to the front as soon as the miai is done. Betrothed of course.

She's sometimes accompanied by a heimin servant, Kyoko, who's however more likely to be found elsewhere, taking care of her mistress' bike, polishing her mistress' armor and other similar tasks while her mistress has the important duty of showing off to impress a potential spouse('s caretakers). She's also the one maintaining the delicate mechanics of her mistress' fleshcraft.

Susumu Nara is the middle of three kids born to Susumu (previously Doji) Hachi and Susumu Emiko. Her early childhood many would have called boring; her parents had arranged for someone to raise her and help begin her training. It was only when her natural affinity to acting began to shine that her father took interest, his Crane upbringing allowing him to teach her more than her senseis would show her. Soon she was being part of performances well ahead of her years, many people not realising the girl who was leading the performances was 5-6 years younger than most of the people in it. The rest of her studies were suffering as a result, but it was going well.

Her big break was entirely her own doing. She is the lead of the (currently on hiatus) Teenage Demon Hunter, which is a popular dark drama on the Spider network about a girl who tries to balance a normal life with hunting demons using a special blessed rifle. There was a fair amount of controversy around her becoming the star, as she was not even past her gempukku age when she took the lead role - a fact either the studio or the Spider chose to hide until a stalker discovered it. The reason for the show being on hiatus however is because of a bizarre situation where Nara, going up to accept an award, pulled her sidearm and try to kill the mascot on stage. As far as any knew, Nara was either under arrest or house arrest, so her being here of all places is an extreme surprise.

Look and personality

Nara is medium height, with brown eyes and black hair. However, almost nobody ever sees that because the girl is always in attire. She owns as many wigs as outfits and restyles everything to always look different, and she’s almost never in the same colour two days in a row. Her styles are wild and stand out in a crowd, and nothing is off limits. She has been very unhinged at points, but it seems she's is beginning to calm down, leaving some to question as to the cause of her odd self-destruction.

First impressions:

Bio:
Shoan is the latest scion of a Murame family that has faithfully served as guards of the Ikoma family for generations. They have never covered themselves in glory, instead finding purpose in completing their relatively mundane duties as efficiently as possible. Shoan's family has few heroes, but no villains.

Shoan's parents, Murame Kenru and Murame Satomi, raised their daughter the same way they were raised by her grandparents. Honour and duty is all, the Lion Clan is your life, and your life is in service of the Empire. Shoan took these lessons to heart and is mostly the dutiful and honourable lion samurai she was raised as, but there was a catch.

A partially hushed up event at her gempukku ceremony led to the Murame being assigned to the Jade Legion and a sensei resigning from the Dojo in disgrace. What exactly happened isn't something Shoan volunteers.

If you ask Shoan about it she'll just tell you that every lie kills someone in the world. So long as her honour is maintained and her duty done, let them whisper. Her actions got the young Lion fast tracked into Jade Legion and she will take up her first formal assignment there after participating in the Miai.

A very long time ago, a samurai named Daigotsu Shokomaru lead the 9th Obsidian legion. He ran it for 500 and more years. Though the young man Shokomaru took that name, it was more of a traditional thing than any sort of admiration for his long Jigoku-bound ancestor.

He has other things to deal with anyway. Like who will look after the land he has inherited, and who will manage his accounts, and who can look after the peasants in his care while he's on campaign.

In truth, the last thing he wants to do is dump that all on someone he's just met, but samurai are samurai.

He has no fame, just garrison duty and a short battle on a far off world that the Spider haven't reported the outcome of yet, and he's not the type to break a gag order.

Shizuku looks almost stereotypically Crane-like, with snow-white hair, blue eyes, and the appearance of not getting much sun. Her clothing tends toward the flowy and feminine when she's not in her armor, and she often wears a black bow half tying back her hair. She tends to be very friendly and talkative, often filling voids of silence with chatter. Those who know her long soon find out why. Left without activity, she has a tendency to lose focus, often for long stretches of time as she falls into a sort of trance state. There have been discussions about whether there might be some malady at play, though most simply write it off as her being a little spacey.

She's a member of the rank and file of the Crane military (as much as any samurai would count as such), and while she seems cheerful enough with her lot in life, she is hoping to move forward with either her military career or her hobby soon. While she's a good soldier, especially for the few years of experience she has, she's known among her unit for her programming hobby. She usually has her portable computer with her, and is usually working on some little quality of life program or a game for fun. While she's not excited to be sent off to a miai, she's looking on the bright side - it might help accomplish her goals, as well as making her family and Clan happy. Win-win in her book.

She is quite fit, obviously having a gym membership (or more likely, her own personal trainer), but she also has gone out of her way to not make herself so fit she'd lose her feminine curves. It is in style that she makes her most bold statements. The sole daughter of the head of Isora Fashions, she's become a designer herself. Though she has yet to have that one big client to make her name, she's already started to turn heads in the industry with her eye raising designs... many of which she's brought to the miai.

Asahina Arms
As a hook, Fusako's mother is former heir to Asahina Arms, the largest Asahina based weapons research and development company. Those in the Crane that know weapons know it to be one of the top makers of magic fused and experimental arms and armor in development. Those with closer ties to the Asahina would know her line to be mildly shunned by the rest of the Asahina because of their business.

Isora Fashions
An additional hook, and the company Fusako is heir to. Those close to retirement age would know the brand for wild, cutting edge fashions, but those between that generation and the current would know very little. Only in the past decade has the company come back into some prominence, known for comfortable, stylish, casual business wear. Those with deeper ties or knowledge of the fashion industry would have heard rumors of the company being run into the ground, and near bankruptcy, for that lost time. Isora Fashions is based on Isora's Rest, and is one of the most prestigious Kakita run clothing designers (though it is currently run by Asahina, which has been a small scandal of its own).

Hyeon-ju is an eye-catching beauty of the Utaku, and there's something captivating about her features that almost look like what the ancient Utaku looked like back in old time Rokugan. At least according to the movies and documentaries. Her black hair has been touched with purple highlights that makes her stand out even more among the many black-haired samurai of the Empire, and she likes a touch of the dramatic in her makeup.

Her fashion-style, which she prides herself on, draws on historical elements from periods in the Empire's long history, meshed together with more modern styles and cuts. She's not a designer, but she is a talented stylist. Uniform, formal, or civilian, Hyeon-ju never misses a chance to be seen in style.

What is known about her is that she is a top graduate of the Skyrider's, known for being punctual, going by the book, and often times a stick in the mud. Her no-nonsense attitude has earned her a reputation as an ice queen, and others in her unit would say that it is her "wasp-ish" ways that have kept her from officer promotion so far. As an Utaku, she takes great pride in her ancestral ways as well and is greatly respectful of traditions.

A smallish, bright bundle of energy, Bayushi Tenma is a yoriki in the service of the Scorpion, apprenticed under a senior Bayushi magistrate of some note. She's from some backwater Scorpion world of little note, and has made little splash outside of Scorpion space. Still, those within certain circles know she was top of her class on her homeworld's dojo for the Soshi Magistrates, and that the Magistrate who is teaching her personally is one Bayushi Korobuto, a well respected old man who has helped keep Scorpion space for decades. Tenma is a handful, very energetic and sociable, always seeming to be moving or talking or fidgeting, though she knows how to keep quiet despite that tendency. At the very least she isn't much for sitting still, and Korobuto has had a hard time keeping up with the young woman.

Appearance-wise, Tenma is definitely has a vibrancy and healthiness to her and a grace to her movements. She is strong, but not especially so, having the muscle and fitness of an acrobat or gymnast. It is even known she's participated in that sport in particular; She might have even made the Clan team for the Empire-wide gymnastics finals if she'd spent more time practicing for the tryouts and less time in the dojo. Like many gymnasts, she is on the short side and not the most curvy in the chest; But she has strong legs and an hourglass figure from her rigorous training. Even above her figure, the most striking thing about Tenma is her naturally red hair and eyes. It would almost be disturbing to some if such things weren't more common these days with colored contacts and hair dye. Still, with it being natural that they're very bold and striking in their vibrancy; Her hair especially since her ponytail tends to follow her movements like a bright flame.

When on the clock, as it were, Tenma usually wears a skin tight black body suit with light pad armor over top of it. Casually, she prefers skirts and blazers. When training, she prefers her gymnastics clothing.

Rather than an hourglass figure, Nozomi sports narrow shoulders, a rather flat chest, and gigantic hips. Her glasses are actually for show, though it helps with her image as a nerd.

Her clothing choices are often on the comfy and baggy side. Hair and makeup are never extreme, though she certainly goes for the "no-makeup look" rather than being completely plain. She stays out of the spotlight whenever she can.

It's rare that somebody would have heard of her before this. She's not someone who has made any notable accomplishments. Instead, she has been studying at a leisurely place, seemingly with no great ambitions to elevate herself in the eyes of the people or in rank.

While he seems somewhat reserved and traditional among many of his peers, he is anything but when compared to his siblings and the rest of the Hanako. His keen interest in modern technology does not translate to actual capability as of yet, but it's only a matter of time before he breaks free completely of the bonds of tradition that his family instilled in him. Michiya is well mannered and respectful, but is a very curious individual. He does have a deep respect for the oldest ways of the empire, but doesn't let that get in the way of his desire for exploration of the newer ways and traditions.

He is not unattractive, but he's also not the darkly attractive young man you find in dramas. He wears more traditional clothing but seems quite interested in different fashions. But for someone with his sheltered history, he has yet to really find something that speaks to him to adopt as his own personal style. For all intents and purposes he simply seems to be trying to find himself and has an air of equal parts naivete and classic dignity that clash with his forward facing outlook. Whoever he ends up with, and the friends he makes, will likely color a great deal about him in the future.

At any given moment there is straw in Moriko’s hair, or an otori feather stuck to her sleeve, or dirt on her face. It has always been this way; within minutes of bathing and dressing some part of the young woman is askew and her hair is falling down from any clips or combs meant to tame it. Her slim build is more agile than strong, with a bright alertness to her eyes.

Her outward appearance reflects her spirit: a little unruly, a little short of “proper”. She is usually seen wearing light armour with her twin firearms: a standard sidearm on one hip, and a webgun on the other. Her clothing is practical and sturdy, she doesn’t care about fashion and she definitely doesn’t come from money.

Bio:
Hakka is the third child of a well to do branch of the Katogama vassal family, with an elder brother and sister who have had their own impact on their youngest sibling. Hakka credits Yoshiaki with the first true introduction to riflery and he was also the one who gifted her with her favored rifle, aptly named Raiun. Most are surprised when they learn that Hakka is one of three children, as Mai, the middle child, is rarely mentioned by the young woman.

When not shooting at moving targets or hunting, something that she has precious little time for due to her duties, she's, not so surprisingly, at her duties, currying favor upon favor like the line of Doji courtiers before her. Or, often, she can be seen working on various programs, security for the latest Kakita popstar's website, the interface for a new Crane cultural website, just to name a few.
